About this service

A cap front is curved, often has a center seam, and is stitched on a cap driver that holds it at an angle. A flat-garment file on a cap usually drifts, gaps at the outlines, or wrinkles the crown. Cap files are built differently: the design sews from the center outward and bottom to top, so fabric is pushed away from the part already stitched rather than bunched into it. We build every cap logo that way.

How we build it

  • Center-out, bottom-up stitch order that keeps the design registered across the curve
  • Extra underlay and pull compensation to handle the center seam and buckram
  • Height kept within typical cap limits (usually about 2.25 inches) so it clears the brim
  • Lettering adjusted so text doesn't warp or lean when the crown curves away

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Most structured caps take designs up to about 4.5–5 inches wide and 2–2.25 inches tall. Low-profile and unstructured caps are smaller; tell us the cap style and we'll size it correctly.

Shirt files stitch left to right or in artwork order, which pushes fabric into already-sewn areas on a curved cap. The result is gaps, misalignment, and puckering. Cap files need their own sequence.

Cap Front Logo Digitizing is delivered as a machine-ready embroidery file in the format your equipment uses — including DST, PES, EMB, JEF, EXP, VP3, XXX, HUS, and any other major machine format.
